Mr. Michael A. Koeppen
Mr. Michael A. Koeppen is the co-founder, President and Chief Executive Officer of Koeppen, Elliott & Associates, Limited, an international trade development and event management firm headquartered in Washington, D.C.
Mr. Koeppen offers over twenty-eight years experience with VIP trade projects in the commercial, governmental and defense sectors and has worked with officials from over ninety-five countries in the areas of privatization, project finance, trade capacity building, public-private partnership programs, identification and development of national and multi-national market opportunities, project technology sourcing, and other related diciplines. Mr. Koeppen has maintained contacts with numerous corporations, industry associations, organizations of U.S. government, and has been responsible for the management of industry and corporate sponsored trade orientation visits for foreign delegates in the areas of Multimodal Transportation Systems/Logistics/Security, Vessel Traffic Systems, Environmental Test and Engineering Services, Waste-to-Energy Management/Biomass Systems, IT Systems, Microwave Electronics and Foundry Services, Power Generation/Co-Generation Equipment, Medical/Surgical Equipment and Infrastructure Development.
Mr. Koeppen has successfully completed feasibility studies, market penetration plans, and has negotiated purchase and trade agreements with both U.S. and foreign based businesses for programs in Transportation (air/sea/rail/highway) Equipment Sourcing, Emergency Management and Response Technologies, Environmental Testing Services, Waste Management and By-Product Assessment, Vehicle Identification and Location Systems and numerous other programs in research and development areas for defense and the scientific community.
Mr. Koeppen has managed over 95 US government funded Conferences, Orientation Visits, Workshops and Outreach events in association with senior government officials from nearly 90 countries. He has been responsible for arranging presidential to traditional diplomatic and project sponsor level trade briefings, product demonstrations, company and site visits, in addition to trade and seminar missions to such internationally renown trade fairs as Farnborough-England, Paris-France, Berlin-Germany, Stuttgart-Germany, Maastricht-Netherlands, Singapore, Hong Kong, Beijing-PRC, and Washington, D.C.
Mr. Koeppen led the contractor team for USTDA’s Oil and Gas/Mining and Minerals Conferences (2 seperate events held in two cities) and associated trade Orientation Visit for President Islam Karimov of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the USTDA twenty-two nation Southeast Europe and Turkey – Telecommunications and IT Conference, the USTDA Ministerial level Southeast Europe Energy and Transportation Conference, the USTDA Armenia Investor Conference attended by President Kocharian and his cabinet, the USTDA European Regional Waste-to-Energy/Renewable Energy Conference in Prague, and other high-level international meeting events, including several “Safe Skies for Africa” Ministerial conferences on behalf of the USDOT – Office of the Secretary.
Mr. Koeppen’s knowledge of the domestic and international business base and supply chain markets, in addition to a comprehensive understanding of the North American industrial base, gives him exceptional qualifications on international business issues. His professional contacts and associates include many of the most distinguished leaders in international business and finance. He has wide experience with both large and small businesses in the United States and has worked in association with the Department of Commerce – International Trade Administration, The U.S. Trade and Development Agency, Department of Transportation – Federal Aviation and Federal Highway Administrations, Department of State – Defense Trade Controls, Department of Defense and numerous international business associations.
Mr. Koeppen was educated in Business Management at the State University of New York and has supplemented his studies with professional programs in International Business Law, Political Science, Foreign Military Sales, Contract Administration, Private Pilot Training, Professional Photography, Procurement Ethics, German/Spanish Language and other relevant business disciplines. He is a citizen of the United States, has held U.S. and British security clearances at the “Secret” level, and has been a NATO courier and has resided in the Washington D.C. area for over twenty years.
Mr. David C. Elliott, OBE
Mr. David C. Elliott is the Vice President and co-founder of Koeppen, Elliott & Associates, Ltd. (KEA).
Mr. Elliott spent 27 years as an officer in the British Royal Navy serving in a variety of command and staff positions worldwide. In 1975 he was the Naval Task Force Commander of the international clearance operation of the Suez Canal in the wake of the 1973 Arab-Israeli wars. He was decorated by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth and the Egyptian Government. He served ashore and afloat in East and Southeast Asia, the Middle East, the Mediterranean area, the Caribbean and Latin America and throughout Northern Europe and North America. He was appointed Senior Officer to The Prince of Wales and subsequently assumed responsibility for the official arrangements for the prince’s military schedule.
Following his retirement from naval service, Mr. Elliott held several executive positions in corporate business, including Vice President of Marketing for North America for Britain’s second largest electronics and telecommunications giant, The Plessey Company. He was chief of staff to the publishing and media magnate, the late Robert Maxwell of Maxwell Communications. Mr. Elliott then became chief executive of a non-profit foundation based in Washington, D.C. involved with the restoration of historic monuments in central Europe before creating his own international consulting company to advise clients on infrastructure projects in the sectors of oil and gas in the Middle East, transportation in northern Europe (including the Channel Tunnel and the Danish-Swedish Bridge) and environmental issues in Europe and North America.
In 1993, Mr. Elliott co-founded KEA as Vice President. In this capacity he has personally planned and managed more than 80 Orientation Visits, Business Briefings and international Conferences for dignitaries from around the world, as guests of the U.S. Government. These have included visits in the sectors of Transportation; Environment and Water; Oil and Gas; Energy and Power; Telecommunications and Information Technology; Safety and Security; Fire and Rescue; and Emergency Response. Delegations have been at Presidential and Ministerial level and have come from Africa, Asia, Latin America, Central and Eastern Europe and Eurasia, and from the Middle East.
Mr. Elliott has lived for more than 25 years in the United States (20 in Washington, D.C), and in Malta, Gibraltar, Egypt, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Bermuda and Sweden. Mr. Elliott was educated at Brighton College in England; the Royal Naval College, Dartmouth; the Royal Naval Staff College, Greenwich; the U.S. Naval War College, Newport, RI; and the London Business School. Mr. Elliott holds Resident Alien status in the United States and lives in Georgetown in Washington, D.C.
